Overview

A proline-containing dipeptide marketed as a cognitive enhancer; clinical evidence is mostly Russian and limited in scale/quality.

How it works

Noopept is a synthetic dipeptide developed in Russia, related in spirit to the racetam nootropics and marketed as a cognitive enhancer.

It's partly converted in the body to a compound (cycloprolylglycine) thought to be active, and its proposed mechanisms include modulating the brain's glutamate (AMPA/NMDA) signaling and raising growth factors like BDNF and NGF.

As with several Russian-developed nootropics, the clinical evidence is mostly Russian and limited in scale and quality, so the mechanism is better described as plausible than proven.

Mechanism · Detailed Analysis
Molecular targetA proline-containing dipeptide, metabolised in part to cycloprolylglycine.
Proposed downstream effectsProposed modulation of AMPA/NMDA glutamate signalling and upregulation of BDNF/NGF.
Evidence & caveatsCognitive-enhancement evidence is mostly Russian and limited in scale and quality.
