Overview

A more potent, stimulant-leaning racetam used clinically in Russia; banned in sport as a stimulant.

How it works

Phenylpiracetam is a member of the racetam nootropic family with a phenyl group added, which makes it more potent and gives it a stimulant edge.

Beyond the general racetam effects on glutamate (AMPA/NMDA) signaling, the added chemical group is thought to increase activity at cholinergic and dopaminergic systems, producing the alertness and physical-performance effects users report.

It's banned in sport precisely because it acts as a stimulant, its human evidence is largely limited and non-Western, and it is not FDA-approved.

Mechanism · Detailed Analysis
Molecular targetA phenylated piracetam; the added phenyl group increases lipophilicity and stimulant activity.
Proposed downstream effectsProposed cholinergic and dopaminergic modulation alongside racetam-type AMPA/NMDA effects.
CaveatsProhibited in sport as a stimulant; human evidence is largely limited/non-Western. Not FDA-approved.
